Nel Groothedde
After years of searching for the right material, I made the choice to work in porcelain, not the easiest material but in my opinion the most beautiful.
The long journey of modeling, making molds, sanding, sanding, sanding, is rewarded with a beautiful baked result that exudes durability and class. That was an experience for me.
My preference is to create babies and young children, to capture that one moment in their young life.
Although my work is very realistic, my babies are born from fantasy. I have nothing in my head when I start modeling but let it happen under my hands.
With every face, hand or foot, I learn a lot, every minimal change gives a different emotion, it is an addiction.
Recently I also sculpt my babies in a polymer clay. This material gives them an even more lifelike appearance. My girls, like my beach collection, I still make in china.
Since 25 years I also own my own gallery and studio, next to my house, in the picturesque town of Zierikzee.on yje Nether;ands, I still experience it as a great luxury when I step into this dream world in the morning. Every doll that is ready can get its own place there.
A nice side effect of making dolls is traveling to exhibitions and meeting colleagues of all nationalities. Every year I visit exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Estonia, Russia and the U.S.A.
